Thread and Spool Tsuba Pictures?

Hi Everyone

 

Saw this one on Jauce recently and thought it looked of nice quality.  I usually stick to insect themes, but something about the symmetry and quality of this one stood out to me.  Anyone else have examples like this?

When we first met, my wife would use these daily among the old equipment for her silk weaving loom. There are probably some outside in the garden even now, but she stopped weaving years ago, and her lovely old Edo loom was allowed to rot away.

this looks like a very nice TSUBA in nearly perfect condition. I have seen similar ones, but have no records of them.

I thought the same Jean.  Iron looks nice and all the zogan is there

 

Is the spool called "Itomaki"?

Yes, like the craft applied to sword TSUKA. There are also TACHI with that name.

Thanks to this thread I went out and rescued the *remaining Ito-maki and added a couple of bonus items. Weaving/sewing related.

if it were mine, I would clean it, stabilize it with low viscosity cyano acrylate, and make a stool out of it! Looks solid enough!

Jean, too small for a stool but I have already sanded it, cleaned it, wood-puttied the wobbly bits and painted it with linseed oil. Looking a little healthier now.

I could also imagine it serving as support for a flower/BONSAI pot, but obviouisly it works fine as 'Cannon KAKE' !

Outwardly pretty similar to Jesse's piece [the image was small and has been enhanced] No specific information.

Well. I ended up winning the itomaki tsuba auction. Real life pics. It’s heavy. I really enjoy it, wonder if it would achieve TokuHo in this condition
