Bruce Pennington Posted November 29, 2023 Report Posted November 29, 2023 Yes, that's the one! Should I admit that he cracked me up at the end, when he told how he would evaluate necks, his commanders, other civilians after the war, on whether they had a "great neck", easy to cut? No, I shouldn't admit that!!! 1 1 Quote
TimJ Posted November 29, 2023 Author Report Posted November 29, 2023 It was brought up that Dai-Seppa for these were not cast but rather stamped or cut out. Has anyone see examples of cast versions? Here's mine and a sample I found on the internet. Do mine look like reproductions? Quote
Bencld Posted November 30, 2023 Report Posted November 30, 2023 Hi all, My kai gunto with a koto sukesada blade has aluminium seppa! The larger ones look like they are stamped ? 3 1 Quote
TimJ Posted November 30, 2023 Author Report Posted November 30, 2023 @Bencld Thanks for sharing. The Dai-Seppa on yours look correct. The dot pattern is smaller and the lines are much cleaner. I still haven't found one that matches the one I have. Leading me to thing it is a reproduction. I think yours and mine are both missing the Brass Seppa. Does your Tsuba rattle slightly? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted November 30, 2023 Report Posted November 30, 2023 Tim, I wouldn't jump to conclusions about yours. During the war, there were over 1,200 shops selling swords. Many of those shops were making fittings. There was a wide variety of quality and production methods. I see nothing about your tsuba/seppa set that looks like after-market, post war work. You just need to find a couple more brass seppa to fill your set out. 2 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted November 30, 2023 Report Posted November 30, 2023 It is an unfair comparison as the other set you listed are a different, higher quality version. Your Dai Seppa look to be pretty standard, perhaps made later on in the war. 2 1 Quote
