Aethel_berht Posted November 26, 2023 Report Posted November 26, 2023 Hello! I recently obtained a Katana and was wondering if anyone had any information to spare on it. It is signed as Hirokuni from Bushu. I believe it is a Shinto Era blade. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted November 26, 2023 Report Posted November 26, 2023 Hello "A"! Looks like you got the NMB name posting rule backwards. Folks don't care about our last names, but we like to have a real first name to chat with. Gorgeous blade. Looks like it has some potential! 1 Quote

I'm potentially looking to have the blade polished by a togishi. Do you think that this blade would be worth polishing and if so do you know any togishi I can contact? Any information would be very helpful! Quote

Expand I checked Sesko's list. He shows "HIRO (広・廣)" so the 廣 could be used for "Hiro"; yet he doesn't show any smiths using 廣 国. @mecox? Quote
rebcannonshooter Posted November 26, 2023 Report Posted November 26, 2023 Hawley's lists a "Hirokuni" with this "Hiro" kanji. He was the second generation and signed "Bushu ju Hirokuni saku", worked circa 1688. Hope this helps. Tom M. 3 1 Quote
mecox Posted November 26, 2023 Report Posted November 26, 2023 Bruce, Chris is right Bushu ju Hirokuni saku 2 Quote
Rivkin Posted November 26, 2023 Report Posted November 26, 2023 By shape its circa 1650-1660, or maybe 1690-1720, plus minus. Looks reasonably legit. Polish is unlikely to be profitable. 2 Quote
