Hi All

Were kamisori Razors made by sword blade smiths and if I were to buy this one would it clean up ok and how would/could you clean it.

they seem like something that would be nice to add to my collection

Also can anyone translate what is on the blade and how old do you think this example is

Ken,

as far as I know, the Japanese craftsmen are usually highly specialized. There are scissors smiths, swordsmiths, blade smiths, tool smiths and....KAMISORI smiths.

The characters on your KAMISORI and the decoration look stamped instead of chiselled to me, so I think it dates from the early 20th century or a bit later.

Concerning restoration, I would give it into the hands of an expert TOGISHI. Could not cost a fortune!

I agree with Jean C. The kamisori looks to be made before WWII, but does not seem to be so old.

名工 - Master

匂梅 – Kobai (smith’s or shop’s name)

特別請合 – Special warranty

I found the same kamisori on the net.
