Type 38 6.5mm Rifle

Didn’t know where else to post this so @Brianfeel free to move to appropriate place.

 I have been wanting a Japanese WWII rifle to compliment all of my Nihonto and Imperial Japanese swords.

There is a fellow dealer selling a Type 38 6.5mm rifle. See attached pics. He is asking $575 but will take $500. Seems like a good deal to me since these are getting hard to find. Please let me know what you think! Unlike Nihonto, I don’t have any reference material for these.

Stock looks split, however if it fires (firing pin not bent, etc.) 500 dollars is a decent price for any rifle nowadays.

Checked others on GB. Looks like that is at the low end of ones in reasonable condition with the Mum.
Probably not a terrible deal.

If memory serves me correctly, the stock is made from two pieces rather than being split.

The stock was made in two pieces. I thought it was split too. I ended up not buying it. Getting too close to the holidaze and should probably use the money for other things...like saving for the Las Vegas show in January!

Very nice Type 38, looked like a good buy to me.  The two piece stock is correct. If the bolt number matched the rifle, it was a real bargain.

I pulled the bolt completely out and saw no numbers at all. I think I may just wait on a good Type 99 example.

Not a bad looking type 38,  6.5.  I have a type I carcano which is chambered in 6.5 Japanese. An impressive rifle made in Italy for the Japanese Navy and sent to Japan on submarines in 1938. Still can mark a decent grouping at 200 meters. We even bought the dies to reload the rounds since they re so hard to find.

Heres a little video I made with that type I last year. I like the 7.7 type 99 also, mine is almost completed, just missing the cleaning rod (current one is a replica). Think about making some Nihonto videos some day too.
