MacTheWhopper Posted November 13, 2023 Report Posted November 13, 2023 I am trying to get some information for a friend's wife who is wanting to sell her sword sue inherited from her grandfather. I posted it to another group and was told it is signed Kanenobu and showa 18. Would this be the Father or the son? The person who sent me the pics, knows little about handling them or getting good pictures. I am trying to get more pictures of the full sword from the lady. Any help is appreciated. Quote
SteveM Posted November 14, 2023 Report Posted November 14, 2023 The translation you got was correct: Nōshū-jū Kanenobu-saku. Shōwa 18 nen (1943) I don't have any information about a father/son Kanenobu. I think this is Niwa Kanenobu (real name of Niwa Shūji). On some English sites there is a typo in the Japanese spelling of Kanenobu's name. Some incorrectly list it as 兼信 instead of 兼延. Quote
John C Posted November 14, 2023 Report Posted November 14, 2023 There is some discussion about a father/son Kanenobu on this thread: John C. Quote

All I could find on "nobu" was 信, and this mei certainly wasn't that. I'm actually practicing and trying to learn these smith names. Kenneth, the photo with the big blue arrow - are you asking if that spot is a stamp? Hard to say with that photo. Will need a better shot of it. 2 Quote

I thought It may have been a stamp, after getting more pictures though, ot doesn't appear so. 1 Quote
