Hammered 'stone-effect' (ishime) - But when you search for Ishime tsuba you don't get the same look and usually just iron with a rough texture. There must be a better description of the background finish. :dunno:

Any one think older than 1800s or even newer. 

 

Story with it.

 

. If this bucket contains glue, this sparrow would fit into the story of the Tongue-Cuttered Sparrow, whose tongue was cut off after eating the glue, but the details are unknown.

 

Never heard that before of course I see it a water bucket for plants or wash walkway.

I would call this rustic texture ARA ISHI ME, coarse stone surface.

Even if it was made with a hammer (= TSUCHI ME), the correct term would name the looks of the TSUBA's surface.
