Stephen Posted November 4, 2023 Report Posted November 4, 2023 Is there a name for this type of texture so I can do some research 6 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted November 4, 2023 Report Posted November 4, 2023 Hammered 'stone-effect' (ishime) - But when you search for Ishime tsuba you don't get the same look and usually just iron with a rough texture. There must be a better description of the background finish. 1 1 Quote
Stephen Posted November 4, 2023 Author Report Posted November 4, 2023 Thanks buddy, I was going to do hammered but knew what I'd get. I'll throw some bottom feeding $$ see what I catch. 1 Quote

Stephen Posted November 5, 2023 Author Report Posted November 5, 2023 Any one think older than 1800s or even newer. Story with it. . If this bucket contains glue, this sparrow would fit into the story of the Tongue-Cuttered Sparrow, whose tongue was cut off after eating the glue, but the details are unknown. Never heard that before of course I see it a water bucket for plants or wash walkway. Quote

Gunome Posted November 5, 2023 Report Posted November 5, 2023 To come back to the initial question, the texture looks like tsushime Quote
Stephen Posted November 5, 2023 Author Report Posted November 5, 2023 Which left even more questions. Nothing came up like that in search. @Gunome When do you date it? Quote
Gunome Posted November 5, 2023 Report Posted November 5, 2023 For me it is a mid edo tsuba from Nara group. 1 Quote

Winchester Posted November 5, 2023 Report Posted November 5, 2023 I think it is really cool, Stephen. Nice catch and good eye. Just love it when we can appreciate the beauty; it stands on its' own. 2 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 5, 2023 Report Posted November 5, 2023 Stephen, I would call this rustic texture ARA ISHI ME, coarse stone surface. Even if it was made with a hammer (= TSUCHI ME), the correct term would name the looks of the TSUBA's surface. 2 Quote
