Mr Nolan Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 As a complete novice a prerequisite to spending what may a fair lump sum is obviously a bit of research, so I've been reading up and looking at various dealers sites and it looks like Anything between $6-10k will be required to get what I want, however I recently came across a site in Japan called 'Black Samurai' http://www.armor8.com , They say they offer genuine antique swords and the swords they are offering all come with detailed descriptions that indeed point to them being the real thing, problem is the prices, priced in USD they seem to missing a 0 and look unbelievably cheap, am I missing something here? Has anybody any info on this company? Thanks Nolan Quote
Bruno Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 swords look real guenine and......very cheap, curious..... Bruno Quote

loiner1965 Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 before you buy a sword please post a pic and the sellers description and ask members advice as too many times ive seen first time buyers spending 1000s of hard earned money on inferior or gemei blades....they advice is free as long as you appreciate it and say a nice thank you :D Quote
Mr Nolan Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Thanks guys, that's them off the shopping list :x , another example of how forums like this one really work for genuine collectors :D Does however make you wonder how many people have been taken in by such methods. Nolan Quote
raven2 Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 One other thing that is very noticible is the differences between the english that is used on the main page (very poor) and that in the product descriptions. They have obviously been written by someone else. And Arthur is a very smart king. Quote
DirkO Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 And Arthur is a very smart king. .. just don't get him started on the airvelocity of swallows or whether they migrate :D @ Nolan : If you come across a site or an offer that's too good to be true, it almost always is. Also, the search function on this forum is very usefull to see if other people didn't come across the same thing before. Quote
Rich Thomas Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Would that be the African swallow? RichT2 Quote
Andi B. Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 ...and the black samurai has stolen his descriptions and images from http://www.nihontoantiques.com... e.g. http://www.armor8.com/productslist.asp? ... ame=Katana http://www.nihontoantiques.com/fss209.htm Quote

paulb Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I appreciate you are as you say new to this forum and will not have seen that this has been discussed many times before however Please refrain from making global statements such as "i was reliably informed that all papers before 2004 are usless because the whole system was corrupt they were all taking bribes so were removed to jail yet the dealers get away with it" This is inaccurate and untrue and suggesting all papers produced before 2004 are fake is absolute nonsense and not supported by any organisation. Eric H Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 i was reliably informed Could you please inform us who stands behind the reliable source. Eric . Quote
Guido Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 The website "Black Samurai" (what does that mean, btw?) is hosted and run from China, not Japan. As to the "fraudolent papers": does your oh so reliable source start with "J" (and maybe ends on "ames Miller")? Quote
