Brian Posted October 18, 2023 Report Posted October 18, 2023 Dealer friend of mine here in SA came across this. He doesn't believe me when I say it is all fake. Like most, the fittings "look old" and therefore there must be another explanation. Refitted, genuine fittings but fake blade, late war, etc etc. I am callling fake on the blade, purely by the misaligned machi. can you guys look at the fittings and tell me if you think there is a chance anything is original? i suspect not. 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted October 18, 2023 Report Posted October 18, 2023 In my experience, this is all fake - from 100 yards (or meters for European folks). 1 Quote
mecox Posted October 18, 2023 Report Posted October 18, 2023 Brian, a rather crude fake, and seems to have been "aged" somehow. Cast fuchi and kabuto gane very poor, hole in latter is rough and no eyelet. Maybe the sarute is OK but cant see all. Ito is different type of material and is black, plus poorly bound. menuki hard to see but looks a mess and is black? Same is rough and falling off. Nakago is just rubbish, crude yasurime and yes the mune machi way off....maybe to fit a crude habaki? 1 Quote
Bazza Posted October 18, 2023 Report Posted October 18, 2023 It would look good at a distance - - - - - - 5 miles... BaZZa. 1 4 Quote
robinalexander Posted October 18, 2023 Report Posted October 18, 2023 Brian, I'm with the others (above) IMO this is definitely not authentic and I do not believe any of the fittings are either. Ageing of Ito, Same, metal fittings is really not that difficult but it's a pity their 'work' didn't include the nakago I'm have interest in Mal's @mecox comment re sarute barrel (no eyelet) but will PM him so as not to hijack the thread. 1 Quote
