mecox Posted October 17, 2023 Report Posted October 17, 2023 Wife's family in Japan have this sword. Any ideas on what it is....looks like a police sword?? Blade could be handmade, looks to have weak suguha hamon, nagasa is 45.5 cm, bohi on both sides, habaki is gilt covered copper but filed off in part. Saya is steel with one ring and is chrome plated. Tsuka: all fittings are brass, grip is worn lacquered wood with twisted wire bands. Has a retention pin. Lower seppa is leather. Could not see any stamps on sword or saya, but on solid round "cross guard" end is a character roughly cut (owner?). Thanks, Mal Quote
John C Posted October 18, 2023 Report Posted October 18, 2023 Looks a bit like a type 19 warrant officer's sword, but the pommel is different (see Dawson page 115 for comparison). John C. 1 Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted October 18, 2023 Report Posted October 18, 2023 @mecox I wouxd type type your name, but the xetter between K and M stopped working on my key pad!!!! You didn't show the end of the pommex, nor the handguard, but from Dawson, page 308 and Pximton page 340, I'd say this is a Patroxman grade Poxice sword. There were many (ok my key between W and Y isn't working ether, AHHHHH) xeriations of these swords, axong with custom pieces too. Here's the pics from both books. Unfortunatxey, neither book gixes exampxes of bxades, but I haxe a feeing they had many custom xariations as wexx. 1 Quote
