G'day Guys,

I have a set of koshirae which has fittings that feature a dragon in clouds. The only problem is that the tsuba doesn't match. I think the tsuba may have been swapped out some time in the past. None of the fittings are signed. A Google search produced this image of a tsuba that appears to be a very close match to the rest of the fittings.  Can anyone tell me anything about it, or even better where I might find one like this?

Cheers,

Bryce

Please be careful of this pattern, it is perhaps the most common copied design [not the one you have pictured which looks excellent] You can see how close the design is to the one below [junk!] and these are known to have "gold" highlights.

Could you show the other fittings so we might find a better match?

G'day Guys,

Thanks for the help. Good to know about the dodgy copies. Yes it is for a katana. Here are some of the other fittings.

Cheers,

Bryce

Hi Bryce,

Think your koshirae fittings are nice, subtle and subdued, all in dark patina.

Only my opinion- really worth nothing- but the tsuba your chasing/ showing - in my mind does not match the other fittings. Look around and dont discard iron- some nice dragons  aswell. I was able to match a kinko fitting to a large iron tsuba and I am very happy- mind you project not finished yet- importantly the dragons matched.

Best of luck- but think about your fittings before you 'glam it up'.

Best of luck, it really does become a dragon hunt!
