Marcus von W Posted September 25, 2023 Report Posted September 25, 2023 In with my collection of various swords, I also have a few scabbards that I picked up along the way, in case I ever acquired a sword missing it's scabbard that one of these would be correct for. The top scabbard is German and the bottom one is Austrian, and I was told the middle one is Japanese. Is this correct, and if it is Japanese, is there a particular type of saber it would be correct for? I realize this discussion does not regard a traditional Japanese sword subject, but I figure on this site, someone may also be familiar with this style sword also. Please forgive the poor quality of the photos, due to my old and marginal little camera. Quote
John C Posted September 25, 2023 Report Posted September 25, 2023 That could be for a Japanese type 19 (or possibly a type 8 )army saber. John C. 1 1 Quote

Yes, Ohmura's site has pristine examples of all the war swords. If you click on the "Table of Contents" link at the top of that page, you'll see all the links to his site and all the Types with examples. And I'd go with Hamish's opinion. He's quite knowledgeable about the Type 8/19. 1 Quote

Any idea what the middle one is? Looking at the photos on the link Bruce posted, the throat piece and the drag on mine is different than the ones shown in the photos. Quote
