rusty iron tsuba clean ?

So a few days ago i got a very rusty round iron tsuba , it is all covered with red rust looks some gold details underneath , and i would like to give a good clean  restore and keep  what is the best way to clean iron tsuba ?

Warm soapy water and a tooth brush

Bone or antler can also be used

A favourite of mine was a piece of old carpet, twirl the tsuba round and round, and then wax afterwards.

There is no standard recipe which would be applicable for each and every rustred TSUBA. To give you a helpful advice, it would be necessary to see - at least - photos of it.

If there is gold decoration involved, all drastic methods should be dismissed. First step is to know how the TSUBA was intended to look by its maker. Also, sometimes a TSUBA is damaged beyond repair, or perhaps you have a diamond in the rough?

So before you start any cleaning, show it here first, and let us help you to carefully save it if possible.
