However, it also could be Reizei, a Japanese emperor who reigned from 967 ~969, whatever significance that might have. The single Kanji is read "Umi", sea. Quote
Nobody Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 other possibilities for 冷泉; 1) reads Reisen which is a place name near Hakata in Fukuoka-ken. The smith Suetsugu Shigemitsu seems to be living in Fukuoka, no? 2) reads Reizei which is the name of a famous court noble. Quote
Stephen Posted December 20, 2006 Author Report Posted December 20, 2006 http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/shigmits.jpg reads Isukushi Suetsugu Shigemitsu correct? So the stamp has not been seen by anyone? Quote

Bungo Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Oyabun, I checked the expensive Fuller und Gregory book...............page 230, figure 64, # X.............there's your " cold Spring " seal stamp. The book did not translate the kanji ( cold spring ) but identified it as Suetsugu Shigemitsu. Thought you may want to know. milt The ronin Quote
