DTM72 Posted September 18, 2023 Report Posted September 18, 2023 The small stamp is a "Showa" stamp, meaning it is a machine made blade, not traditionally forged. 関 = Seki (city) 住 = Ju (living) 佐 = Sako 信 = Nobu 光 = Mitsu 作 = Saku (Make) The maker was Sako Nobumitsu living in Seki. http://www.japaneses...shigata/nobumit2.jpg It appears to be a WWII machine made blade, in civilian mounts. From what can be seen, it is authentic. 1 Quote
SteveM Posted September 18, 2023 Report Posted September 18, 2023 Close, but Ray's got the right answer. Quote

SteveM Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 Ouch. I didn't have "Sako" on my radar at all. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 Most dated blades with the showa stamp are 1940-1941, with a rare few made before that, back as far as 1935. Quote
Jeanielvmy3 Posted September 19, 2023 Author Report Posted September 19, 2023 Thank you everyone, any idea what it might be worth and where I might be able to sell it? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 19, 2023 Report Posted September 19, 2023 You can post it on NMB's Swords/Edged Weapons for Sale Forum. That's ideal and will save you the hassles and fees associated with ebay. Ebay is the other option. You can search ebay for current market rates. WWII swords run anywhere from $900 to $1,400 depending upon several issues. There are other sites like Etsy and Craig's' List, but you'll deal with tons of scammers once you post there. 1 Quote
