Jesper Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 HI all, I have a tsuba with an older certificate with the name "R.O. Bretnor" written on it in handwriting. I like to update my archive with previous owners, but cannot fine any info on him (I guess it is a man), except maybe being an American science fiction writer, who died in 1992. I am grateful for any information on "R.O. Bretnor". Is it the author? With best regards, Jesper Shimizu_Jingo5_Bretnor.pdf Quote
Spartancrest Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 Reginald Bretnor Collection https://www.sothebys...-l05860/lot.835.html I can't find the date of the auction, so I can't tell if the dates would match with the death of the Sci-Fi writer. 1 1 Quote

Spartancrest Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 https://en.wikipedia...iki/Reginald_Bretnor - Some lines give a clue to his interest in weaponry and he was posted to Japan [2+2 = 4?] According to papers in the SOHS Archives, Bretnor's military background included service in the last cavalry unit in the U.S. Army. ---- He was hired by the Office of War Information to write propaganda to be sent to Japan, and papers related to his work are held in the SOHS Archives. After World War II, Bretnor worked for the U.S. State Department until ill health once again caused him to resign. He died, aged 80, in Medford, Oregon. In addition to wars, weaponry and science fiction, Bretnor's interests included cats. 4 1 Quote
