Bob61 Posted September 9, 2023 Report Posted September 9, 2023 Hi Everyone I'm back with another question for this fantastic group of people and forum. I am asking today for anyone's help in valuing the attached aikuchi. (I have a suit of armour from the Hosokawa clan that matches, the fabric on the scabbard.) Both as the sword itself and hopefully some added idea of value, for it has appeared in the movie Shanghai Noon, filmed in Canada. I do know that it has Edo period fittings, and the blade has been cut down and is older. It is unsigned and unpapered and the scabbard is in somewhat of need of repair. I have no idea what the kozuka's values are either, so any information would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea and I would like to eventually post it here for sale in the near future. I have attached a google drive file with photos of the aikuchi, the suit of armour and a screenshot showing the knife as well as the contract. Thanks all. https://drive.google...qTwzm?usp=drive_link Cheers Bob Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 9, 2023 Report Posted September 9, 2023 A very unusual blade, and it make evaluation more difficult when you are not seeing it straight on (the angles of view distort the shape of the blade). My impression though is that this may be a naginatanaoshi blade of tanto length. This shape only makes sense to me as the end of a naginata. Best regards, Ray 2 Quote
Bob61 Posted September 10, 2023 Author Report Posted September 10, 2023 Hi Ray I apologize. I was having trouble getting pictures onto the forum, thus the google drive link. Did you look at those pictures? Hopefully, they are a bit better, if not, I would be happy to do more. Cheers, Bob Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 I looked at the photos in the link you shared prior to my reply. Quote
Brian Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 I suspect the memorabilia value would be higher than the value of it as a tanto. Agree with Ray, and I think on its own it would have moderate value. But with the movie connection, you may find it more suited to a movie memorabilia auction. I have no idea what it would be worth with the Jackie Chan connection. He's a popular actor and I think fans may be interested. The screenshot isn't enough to positively link it to that movie, but since you seem to be the supplier to that movie, a letter from you should be sufficient. Like to see what it goes for, wish you luck. Quote
