cisco-san Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 I found a very interesting Tanto for sale. I am not sure, but is it possible that it is a rare Tanto from Showa period? Blade and Hamon looks like non traditional and the yellow Same like "plastic"--> therefore I guess the Tanto is from Showa era. I have already seen such Same on this board, but I can´t remember where. I asked for more photos and will share it with you as soon as I get it. Your comments are highly appreciated. Quote
Guido Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 IMO this Tantô is as rare as a petrified dog-turd, but less esthetically pleasing. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 I believe this is a rare tanto from the Chinese fake period. Grey Quote
Bazza Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 FWIW this humble observer concurs with the above two gentlemen - my sediments exactly... Regards, Barry Thomas. Quote
cisco-san Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 Many thanks for your comments. Sorry for this unnecessary threat. Therefore I would kindly ask Guido to delete this thread and save bandwidth for "wise" posts. Additionally I will find some Punishment because of this great shame on me. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Hi Klaus, No shame; just a learning experience. Grey Quote

Don't sugar coat it Guido... Give it to us straight. Klaus, to me it looks closer to a western knife makers version of a Japanese tanto. Whatever it's origins, it is not Japanese. Quote
Joe Choi Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I think its made by Citadel, modern cambodian made. They do make excellent (Japanese Style) sword, if you are into cutting things, they cut very very well. Quote
Lee Bray Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Could well be, Joe. Found this with a quick google. http://www.888knivesrus.com/product/CD0 ... TANTO.html Same sugata, habaki, look of "petrified dog turdiness"... :D (Sorry, cisco-san...it's Guido's fault.) Quote
Henry Wilson Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Has anyone seen a tanto made by a Yasukuni shrine smith? Did they make them for the navy during WW2? Quote
cisco-san Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Dear Nihonto community many thanks for your comments. One more reason to work and learn much more harder Quote

Henry, might be better to open a new topic on this question. Might get better exposure than buried in another thread with a dog turd. :D Quote

Amon Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Don't even think this one is Citadel either, just some ...... Best regards, Quote
cisco-san Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 The seller told me that the Tanto is from Japan but is new Quote
Chriso Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 This Tanto, i use the term loosely, looks very similar to one I posted some time back. I believe the discussion at that time included the possibility of the item having been made as a gift at a wedding or the birth of a child...... Best Chris Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Any better pics? Tough to see much here. Quote
Chriso Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 G'day Joe, Sorry about the quality of the pics. I was just trying to make the point that there a a variety of ideas being thrown arouund when it comes to an item that does not quite fit the mould. I've attached a couple of other small pics and I will try to get one of the nakago (plenty of pics 1MB and above but too big to post here). Regards Chris O Quote
