Moley Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 Living in a house built North / South, even in wet Wales we get a LOT of Sun shining in. Over the years, Prints on the walls and Book spines have faded due to sunlight. Even the Tsuka ito on one Katana left in the sun's path faded. My question is this. Thinking of moving a Tsuba display to another part of the room. BUT the sun hits it in the afternoon. My question.. Do iron Tsuba Fade in Sunlight ? Gwyn Quote
Matsunoki Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 Gwyn. they won’t fade but they will get hot, possibly very hot if in direct sunlight and there is a chance that inlay could be disturbed as they expand and contract over time. Depends on how long they are exposed for. Also if they have any artificial coating (wax, lacquer, varnish etc) that could be adversely affected. The backing material in the case will fade.…..nice dragons though. The joints in the wood case might spring open and the wood might warp. Best. Colin. 1 Quote
Stephen Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 For newbies not you Gwyn, swords left by windows with direct sunlight stand a great chance of rusting. Condensation occurs quickly. 2 Quote
Jon Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 Sunlight actually can increase the rate of rust formation. Light enhanced oxidisation…old things should always be kept in the dark. 1 Quote
