den70 Posted September 3, 2023 Report Posted September 3, 2023 Gentlemen, I'm interested in your opinion about this kay gunto. How much does it make sense to polish it? And maybe you can tell me more about the master - Unhosai Katsunaga. Thank you. Quote
John C Posted September 4, 2023 Report Posted September 4, 2023 Den: I'm not sure about the fittings. Looks like a badly cast tsuba (could be very late war) and the menuki are army style. I'll let someone more familiar comment on the blade. John C. 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted September 4, 2023 Report Posted September 4, 2023 Its a " bitser" made up of parts to complete and sell. Army tsuka, navy saya, incorrect seppa, etc etc. Nothing worth investing in 1 1 Quote
den70 Posted September 4, 2023 Author Report Posted September 4, 2023 Many thanks for answers. Sorry for my bad English. Quote
Brian Posted September 4, 2023 Report Posted September 4, 2023 Not worth polishing. It's a wartime arsenal sword, but put together from parts. Don't worry about your English, we have 32 countries here and we don't expect all to know English :-) I hope things are ok with you guys over there. 2 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 4, 2023 Report Posted September 4, 2023 @den70 Den, I couldn't find anything on a WWII Katsunaga, but that's farily common. There were over 400 smiths working during the war, and we just don't have every one of them recorded. I agree with Hamish, the only thing "navy" about this is the saya. and the parts appear to be pieced together. I don't see the value in having the blade polished. Some people do it if the sword has sentimental value, but if you plan to re-sell, you won't get your money back on the cost of the polish. 1 Quote
