Help me identify this ww2 sword?

I'm not sure if its from ww2 period but that suggested my father. He had this sword as gift from a friend. It's a short sword.

Hi, excellent place to study. Pop out the little wooden peg (Mekugi) that’s at the “front” of the handle and slide it off so we can see the tang (Nakago) and get you more info. It appears to be legit so far

Not WW 2, probably Edo wakizashi.
