Wakizashi in Koshirae, Mumei attributed Sue Seki, NBTHK Hozon Token

 

Sword Description:

This sword is a very nice short Wakizashi, about 450 years old, with a beautiful Koshirae.

Blade length: 37.3 cm or 14.685 inches.
Sori: 0.8 cm or 0.315 inches.
Mekugi Ana: 3
Width at the hamachi : 3.12cm or 1.22 inches.
Kasane: 0.365cm or 0.14 inches.
The weight of the sword 365 grams.

Habaki: silver single habaki.

 

The sword was recently newly polished. Alhough it is a superb polish, you may feel oldness of the sword.

Era: late Muromachi period, about 1570.

Shape: The blade is O-suriage and machiokuri, wide and thick with suitable sori, a nice shape.

Jigane: Itame hada, Hada Tachi, Jinie attached. Utsuri are strong and well visible along the blade.
Hamon: Nie deki gunome midare, togari gunome midare, bo-shi is round shape. Tobiyaki and Yo may be seen.

 

Koshirae : Aikuchi Koshirae – Beautiful one with nice fittings.
Saya: sharkskin with family crest(Kirimon) are painted very attractive saya.
Menuki: dragon is engraved with gold color.

Kozuka: On the fine black syakudo nanako plate, 2 family crests are engraved with gold color. Signed blade.

Kogai: On the fine black syakudo nanako plate, 3 Imperial Kirimon crests are engraved with gold color.

 

This sword is a beautiful old item. The Koshirae is very beautiful and there are used nice and valuable fittings. The sword itself looks great, too. It is like a typical Mino-den looking on Ura side and reminds me strongly Soshu-den on the Omote side by its rich hamon with Tobiyaki, Yo and next Hataraki.

The sword was quite recently sharpened and polished by a high ranking polisher and actually looks really amazing.
