Uda Kunimune

The Uda school refers to a group of swordsmiths who migrated from Yamato Province, which is now Nara Prefecture, to Etchu Province, which is present-day Toyama Prefecture, during the late Kamakura period.

The 1st-gen Kunimune is said to have been active during the Nanbokuchō period, and the name Kunimune was passed down through several generations until the Shintō period.

The approximate time of Kunimune's sword making for this particular work is about 600 years ago, during the late Nanbokuchō period to the early Muromachi period, suggesting it was crafted by either the 1st-gen or 2nd-gen of Kunimune.
