Tanto54 Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Hi, I'm a new member looking for help with how to deal with a green powdery oxidation that builds up about every 6 months in the corner of my shakudo kozuka plate. Thus far, I've been gently brushing it away with a fine horse hair brush. Is it causing damage and can I stop it? I'd also appreciate any thoughts on quality, maker, theme (Oar and Rudder). I must admit that I was shocked to see this kodzuka under magnification - I'd always thought that the nanako was very fine to my naked eye.... Quote
John A Stuart Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Hi Tanto 54, Corrosion uncontrolled is destructive, controlled corrosion being the patina and desirable. Only two ways to prevent this. 1) coating, many many and undesirable 2) keep the item away from corrosion causing conditions. A dry atmosphere, esp sea air in a chest with driers etc. John Quote

docliss Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 The kozuka of tanto54 appears to be of good quality. Can any member make any observations upon what appears to be a square nanako, and quite unlike any that I have previously seen? John L. Quote
John A Stuart Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Hi Doc John, Yes, the outer part of the punch has left round marks and the inner part has made a pillow shaped nanako. Actually it is not well done regardless of the shape when you bring up the magnification. I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. John Quote
