kotengu Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 I am 99% sure I have the blade of type 32 with a serial number in the 400's. The hilt is gone, Scaberd may match, maybe in the 1000's, hard to read... Assuming this is true, is it the oldest blade found? Does it have real value or is it just very cool... Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 It's pretty darn low! But don't know anyone tracking these, unless @Kiipu is. Otherwise it would take a Search of NMB and checking each thread to find out. 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted July 5, 2023 Report Posted July 5, 2023 All numbers under 10,000 Are considered to be the first or 2nd year production. Tho desirable to some. If mismatched not valuable 1 1 Quote
kotengu Posted July 7, 2023 Author Report Posted July 7, 2023 Thank you, the sword is # 401 I suspect it's the first few weeks... Does anyone know the lowest-numbered one found? The scabbard is # 9664. Quote
lonely panet Posted July 7, 2023 Report Posted July 7, 2023 I believe Dawsons has the prototype or something such like 1 Quote

Kiipu Posted July 7, 2023 Report Posted July 7, 2023 Post a picture of the serial number and provide the blade length, which will be one of the two below. Measure from the hilt to the tip of the blade. 甲 Blade Length: 832mm 32.75”. 乙 Blade length: 774mm 30.5”. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 7, 2023 Report Posted July 7, 2023 Good point, Thomas. @kotengu Isen (is that a name?) Good to know if we have a number for the "KO" or "OTSU" line of swords. And frankly - we would all LOVE to see some photos!!! 1 Quote
kotengu Posted July 8, 2023 Author Report Posted July 8, 2023 its a 30.5. I have other examples of both versions. Its in a Frankenstein wooden tsuba hilt, a clever design really, that has room for the locking mechanism, with original screws I believe..., I might wrap it and call it a day, but is there a source of replica hilts? I need two fyi... below is a photo. I read that the earlier models had a problem getting stuck in the sheath occasionally so models after were made a little thinner at the base of the blade? I can't confirm this as I lost the page... Someone also sharpened it very well, held the bevel and it's much sharper than my other two... i like it. 1 1 Quote

lonely panet Posted July 10, 2023 Report Posted July 10, 2023 from what i see, is just a relic. no value in my opinion. being a machine made war item, i personally would say its almost worthless. would you pay much for a buggered bayonet?? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 10, 2023 Report Posted July 10, 2023 Lacking a better place to post this, for those who wonder if the Type 32 was used much during WWII, look at the pile of them under this guys legs! 1 1 Quote

Expand In a way, it pleases me that it's not worth much to the world (with a tear in my as I wave good-by to my retirement plan). I enjoy it and that it is the lowest one, I won't have to sell it for fear of a home invasion. Below are more photos of the clunker... Begining to figure out this website. The white wrap was from before I got it. And I have bought a beat-to-hell bayonet, perhaps for it's tired beaten body and it's stories that I will never know. Thank you for your wisdom. Isen Quote

lonely panet Posted July 11, 2023 Report Posted July 11, 2023 If your willing to put in the time. Sesrch ebay for a handle. Because no numbers match it wond devalue it further. Just try and find a dated knuckle guard to early taisho or meiji. But the latter will be hard 1 Quote
