Brian Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 I know these just don't turn up for sale very often. Wondering if anyone is able to give a rough value on what the whole set would retail for, the deluxe version with leather(ette) covers, minty. I assume over $1000 if you can find them? Quote
Brian Posted June 29, 2023 Author Report Posted June 29, 2023 I've been advised that my estimate is high. Going to do some thinking and research before proceeding. Not mine, part of the stuff I am selling for the owner, and may deliver them to the SF show. They were purchased for around $1200 many years back from Bridge of Dreams, and are mint I think. No rush, let's see what is a fair price for a buyer. Maybe we can deliver them to the SF show for free. They are almost 12kg, so quite a set of books! Years ago Ford Hallam told me THESE are the books to own if you collect tosogu. I always craved a set myself, but they are out of my budget unfortunately. 2 Quote
Ian B3HR2UH Posted June 30, 2023 Report Posted June 30, 2023 Hi Brian , i purchased a set in Japan about three years ago for thirty or forty thousand yen . These were from a sword book dealer so that price is about the market price. Ian Brooks 1 Quote
Brian Posted June 30, 2023 Author Report Posted June 30, 2023 Thanks all. Will probably see if we can get them to SF and put them on the table at a fair price. Quote
zanilu Posted June 30, 2023 Report Posted June 30, 2023 Brian, This set is on sale right now on yahoo Japan. https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/p1096546559 Hope its help. Luca Quote
Brian Posted June 30, 2023 Author Report Posted June 30, 2023 Thanks. At those prices, I may just do a deal and keep them myself. Can't let a set of 8 high quality books go for less than a decent Fuller and Gregory Military swords book goes for Quote
rkg Posted July 1, 2023 Report Posted July 1, 2023 This is a useful set, and there is an index or table of contents translation floating around. I think the pieces in Wakayama's kodogu 3 volume mei set (several of which have popped up lately on YJ, FWIW) is cross referenced to these too (or was it the other way around - too early in the morning (for me) to recall right now) Best, rkg (Richard George) Quote
Brian Posted July 1, 2023 Author Report Posted July 1, 2023 I'll see them tomorrow and take pics. The 3 volume set has an English index floating around. Haven't see anything for the 8 Volume. Quote
DirkO Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 There is an index for the 8 volume set as well. However I don't know if it's a publicly available one. Quote
Brian Posted July 3, 2023 Author Report Posted July 3, 2023 It was done as a NMB appreciation and fund raiser many years ago. I'm sure it's fine to share it. Huge thanks to the pair who did it. Wakayama 8 Vol Index.pdfFetching info... 2 Quote
