Sairen
He was a swordsmith who was active in Chikuzen Province, which is now Fukuoka Prefecture, during the late Kamakura period.
His common name was ""Kuniyoshi,"" and he became a Buddhist monk and adopted the name Sairen.
He is said to be the grandfather of Samonji and was tasked with sword making as a member of the Hakata Dangi-sho, established to strengthen the defense of northern Kyūshū after the initial Mongol invasion.
One of his distinguishing features is that his style differs from his grandson, Samonji, as he primarily followed the Yamato-den.
