Dr Greenthumb80 Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 Anyone know if these are real or fake symbols? Quote
Brian Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 Nope, and signed in the wrong place, and that tang isn't a "tang" Chinese fake, or a part of the blade that was filed into a tang. Quote
Dr Greenthumb80 Posted August 4, 2023 Author Report Posted August 4, 2023 Could this be an old Chinese dagger? It is very well made compared to other fakes. Well balanced, very sharp, and all fittings are tight and solid... or is it just made to look the part? Quote
Matsunoki Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 Can we see the whole thing including fittings? Quote
Dr Greenthumb80 Posted August 4, 2023 Author Report Posted August 4, 2023 Yes, it's made from abalone. I'll have to take some pictures after work today. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted August 4, 2023 Report Posted August 4, 2023 Nathan, with all due respect, but this is really ugly! Have a look at genuine Japanese swords and get some experience of how they look. Quote
John C Posted August 5, 2023 Report Posted August 5, 2023 Another tell-tale sign is the offset hamachi. Even a broken blade shortened into a tanto would have a straight hamachi line. John C. Quote
Dr Greenthumb80 Posted August 5, 2023 Author Report Posted August 5, 2023 So, not an old Chinese dagger? I know it's not a Japanese tanto, I've been reading and learning as much as I can about authentic Japanese swords. I just picked up a Nagamichi Wakizashi Sword, and I'm learning that Nihonto Swords are way better quality, in every way, than any other swords... now, I'm learning how hard it is to verify the signature, shape, hamon, and metal grain of the sword to be able to verify the maker... wish me luck. It's on my other thread if you want to check it out? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted August 5, 2023 Report Posted August 5, 2023 Nathan, it is not a dagger at all, as these are double-edged. Quote
