my favoriten are:

1 - THE TWILIGHT SAMURAI

2 - SAMURAI REBELLION

3 - ZAITOICHI, Kitano

I love also the television series "shogun"

i also like the shogun series, though i am more interested in the real Anjin sama (dono is more correct for the era, due to the fact the official san and sama denomination are of later date....) wo became hatamoto to Ieasu!!

Forget about the oldies. This newly released Bushi no Ichibun is highly recommended. It's about a blind swordsman.

I am anxious for seeing this last film of Yoji Yamada's 'Bushi No Ichibun'

but I have a question on my mind!!

in the first movie the "star" it was the wakizashi, in the second it was the kozuka, but in this last movie it would be??????

This doesn't really fall into the Samurai category but you can't go wrong with Ikiru directed by Akira Kurosawa.

 

There but for the grace of (insert religion) go I !!!

 

Naturally I would have to vote for The Seven Samurai as the best samurai film but Ikiru may change you or at least wake you up.

 

Ninja Scroll is well done if Anime is your thing and you're over 18.... (sorry parents)

IKIRU is a beautiful film!!

 

I am happy to own the Kurosawa collection, love all his films!!

where tigers tread is also great!

 

and the film about the doctor, redbeard! gives a good understanding of the position of doctors in the Edo period!
