vantique Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 Hi all, I have this unsigned blade which is 18 1/4 from tip to where the tang begins. Would appreciate your expert opinions on its origin, design, age, authenticity and everything else. Thank you so much. Quote

John C Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 Vincent: Just my opinion, but it seems to be a reproduction. Notice the shape of the nakago is off; the shape of the kissaki is off; and the ha machi and mune machi do not line up. In any case, someone has taken a grinder to it to clean off the rust. Could be Japanese, though it has been treated roughly. John C. 1 Quote
NewB Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 Hello I'm pretty sure this is not an authentic, Japanese, traditionally made blade... and if I'm wrong then someone made sure it is at past its original shape. among everything else it has file marks on the tang but that alone can't be a guarantee J Quote

Larason2 Posted June 9, 2023 Report Posted June 9, 2023 The mekugi-ana in the nakago isn't symmetrical, and it has a ridge around it, so it certainly wasn't punched. The kissaki is definitely the wrong shape, and the shinogi just dissapears to nothing toward the tip. I agree likely a reproduction, and one that has been heavily damaged by the grinding. Quote
