Brian Posted June 2, 2023 Report Posted June 2, 2023 Oddly, a few tsuba are coming up for sale locally out of a collection. Very unusual to see anything Japanese for sale this side. I am not sure if there will be interest or not, and I am really not in a position to be considering any purchases lately. But on the off chance that there are any that need to be looked at or considered, I'm posting them here for comments. Most I find to be fairly average examples. Perhaps someone sees something that I should look at? There are one or 2 that I may put a bid in for, we shall see. Starting prices are averaging at about $125 to $185 plus premium of about 25% so not bargains. So...comments? Note: These are the only pics they show, they don't show the reverse which is silly, I agree. Quote
Geraint Posted June 2, 2023 Report Posted June 2, 2023 Dear Brian. It's all down to personal taste but I'd be looking at No. 1, carving seems to go over the mimi, No. 3 looks rather fine and No. 14, theme of Shiguretei, that slightly attenuated interpretation is often seen in Akasaka. Enjoy! All the best. Quote
Brian Posted June 2, 2023 Author Report Posted June 2, 2023 #1 Is one I already decided to have a go at. Quote
dimitri Posted June 2, 2023 Report Posted June 2, 2023 The #3 and #9 are nice I think. On the other hand for most auctions it's true, they only show ube face, I don't understand why? Always ask for more information. Quote
Kurikata Posted June 3, 2023 Report Posted June 3, 2023 Brian, all tsuba are quite nice depending on taste, and collection objectives. Personally #5 ito sukashi looks nice to me. Quote
