Hello gentlemen

I have been looking at this design for a while now. Like it very much. Especially ones with signatures and seal.

Unfortunately all tsuba that I have seen so far for sale were in poor condition.

I came across if this one, but as we can see mumei.

Would this one be from the same workshop ( or factory :))?

Regards

Vitaly

Yes as Mauro has pointed out, most are in iron, still I think yours is genuine - might even be much rarer. It is a style I like very much.

I have seen a few where the signature has been erased - I don't know why, so not being signed is just a distraction - if it was meant to deceive they would have included a fake signature I am sure, certainly easier to do on soft metal? The pattern on the rim edge convinces me it is good. [at least you don't have to watch out for rust like my three examples !]

This one is in not too bad a shape - [some wear on the right hand side]  bit of a clean would help - https://www.jauce.com/auction/q1088007643

Although the English translation says cloisonné, the original Japanese 七宝 shippō is broader, used in various contexts with various meanings.

Here it was never meant to be filled with enamel for what we think of as ‘cloisonné’ work. This is a classical Mon design or repeating pattern that is simply named ‘shippō’.
