benkyoka Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 Hello everyone! I recently acquired this lovely tsuba with kanteisho paperwork stating it is the work Wakashiba. I tried googling and found reference to his name in one of the editions of 鍔の美. I don't have that edition and I am wondering if anyone else could point me in the direction of more information. I will post the pictures for all to enjoy. Quote
Gunome Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 Hello, I got this book 鍔の美 (Tsuba no bi). Unfortunatly it is in Japanese and I didn't read it. Nevertheless I got a translation of main titles and there is one in this book n°44 : "Wakashiba, mid Edo, suritsuke of gold, silver, bronze and shakudo" May you could translate all the explanation Sebastien Quote
pcfarrar Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 It's Jakushi not Wakashiba. The tsuba is typical work for the Jakushi school from Nagasaki in Hizen province. Nice piece! If you send me an email I'll forward on some information I have. Quote
yogoro Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 This Jakushi school tsuba , but rather rare for this school motif. Here shoami tsuba and similar design. Mikolaj Quote
IanB Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 For those who are interested, the subject of these tsuba is 'The three vinager drinkers', one being Buddha. I found a tsuba with the same subject on a sword that had been handed in to the police during an amnesty. Ian Bottomley Quote
