Hi all,
Trying to help someone locally with a sword. Is this Tadayoshi? 忠義
And does it appear to be a wartime smith? Unfortunately I don't have better pics, but blade is poor and out of polish. I assume Showato.

Thanks.

Sesko has 2 Showa Takayoshi, but not with that 'yoshi' kanji.  Interesting possibility is one from the Genroku era (1688-1704):

TADAYOSHI (忠善・忠義), Genroku (元禄, 1688-1704), Owari – “Wakasa no Kami Fujiwara Tadayoshi Bishū ni oite kore o saku” (若狭守藤原忠善於尾州作之, “made by Wakasa no Kami Fujiwara Tadayoshi in Owari province”), he came originally from Mino but studied later under Wakasa no Kami Ujiyoshi (若狭守氏善) in Owari, he signed his name also with the characters (忠義)

Yeah, I'm also battling a bit with finding a WW2 smith with those kanji. Going to move to the military section, see if we come up with anyone. I'm not sure it looks like a pre-war sword, but it's possible.
Thanks all, let's see.

Hello,

sorry to reopen this old thread but I have a question concerning Suzuki Tadayoshi.

A friend offered me a blade which is signed Yamato (no) kuni Tadayoshi (大和国忠義) and dated Showa 17, 4th month lucky day (April 1942).

Chris Bowen told me that the only smith, he is aware of,  who signed with 忠義 is Suzuki Tadayoshi.

But unfortunately he has no more information about this smith available.

Therefore, I kindly ask if anybody (maybe @PNSSHOGUN) has some information about this smith.

Many thanks in advance.

Klaus

Sadly, for those of us who study them, we see this often.  There were almost 500 smiths working during the war, and it seems that the lists, of any kind, usually only have about 300 names.  That leaves 100-200 smiths that are not found on lists.

If anyone can find them, it would be @george trotter and @mecox.  If they can't, I'd say there's nothing to be found.

Had a look through the books Klaus but I found nothing for a WWII era TADAYOSHI of Yamato no Kuni (Nara Prefecture), sorry...I too have a couple of unrecorded WWII smiths...a nuisance for sure!

Regards...
