Hello, thank you for accepting me to this site and group.

I was wondering if someone could help me with some translations of some Shin Gunto?

Thank you for any help you may give me.

Kind Regards

James

Hi James,

Your sword is inscribed

昭和十六年 = Shōwa 16 (1941 CE)

兼宗 = Kanemune.

Markus Sesko's Swordsmiths of Japan has two entries for Shōwa era Kanemune: Fukumoto (福本) and Kiribuchi (桐淵).  Yours was probably made by the former (see, e.g., here for another example).

I think the date is Showa 6 but the split pictures and blurryness kills my eyes :laughing:

The Mei could be 兼 Kane and maybe you can make out the 2nd Kanji yourself.
There is a lot of reference material for translating Mei here on the side, I use this http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/kanji/kanji1.htm

Thank you so much for the reply. i'll check it out. :)

James, yes looks to be Fukumoto Kanemune who was a key smith in the Amahide workshop in Seki.   Details in this NMB Download:
