Hi

I have just bought a Gendaito (I think, I am pretty sure, but it has a certain stamp on it) with a dragon Horimono to the blade. On the hilt are two silver "mons"; well, one is, the other looks like some award or other marking. Can anyone help with these?

Thanks / regards / RSVP

Mark

Mark, The name, in the circle reads Tamura. However, the kamon is not listed under that name in 'Kamon no Jiten'. There is a similar kamon, in which the six-around-one stars are rendered in outline only. This is ascribed to the Nakagawa family.

Thats the seven heavenly bodies mon, not sure what the other is but IMHO, the mons themselves are rough and the horimono is not particularly well done. May be gendaito but wouldn't bet on it.

Hello,

About the horimono, I didn't saw a shinogi. Does the blade is hira-zukuri ?

An horimono is not usual on a gunto blade. Could you please provide us photos of the blade and the nakago ? :D

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for the photo.

There is a shinogi I haven't saw on the previous photos

That's the first time I saw an horimono on a showato mounted in gunto. Thanks for shared it on the forum.
