Really like this war hat - A jingasa [war hat] | Edo period, 18th - 19th century

A quick lotto win will help get this and several of the tantos

Hi!

As always some problems with the descriptions.

I am in no way an expert but have a few saotome kabuto, I have problems with lot 13. I believe it's not from the Saotomé school.

I also think that armor lot 36 could be later than Meiji.

Hmmmmmm….this will be interesting. Ferocious estimates typical of Sothebys…..and don’t forget the 26% (+vat) buyers premium on top. Just had a quick look, only a couple of items had even got a bid. To be honest I’m surprised Sothebys bother with this type of sale. It can’t be worth their while. They pulled out of “Japanese” years ago but have since dabbled with a couple of sales, none of which went well from memory.

Bonhams have a general Japanese sale online now with swords, fittings etc…..including some very ordinary tsuba .

It’s certainly no saotome., 36 is younger than me (I don’t like to admit this)

Some really nice armor stuff and some really questionable pieces on the other hand. No further comments about the descriptions and estimations…..🙄

Agree about no. 13, Anthony!
