David Schweitzer Posted April 25, 2023 Report Posted April 25, 2023 Looking for some help translating a paper message on my nihonto. This will not allow me to load my pics but if you could send me an email address I will gladly send all pics. Thanks, David Quote
ROKUJURO Posted April 26, 2023 Report Posted April 26, 2023 David, that will probably not work! If you read carefully about the functions of the site, you will be able to post your photos. It is no witchcraft! Quote
Brian Posted April 26, 2023 Report Posted April 26, 2023 Just resize. Lots of free online image resizers, or edit on the phone. Quote
SteveM Posted April 28, 2023 Report Posted April 28, 2023 I got in touch with David and am posting photos of his sword on his behalf. Looks like a good naval sword. The military sword guys will be interested in this. Unfortunately there is a scratch across the label attached to the scabbard, so I can't make out what looks to be the owner's name (Ko-something Jirō). Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted April 28, 2023 Report Posted April 28, 2023 These came up if it is Ko something Jiro: Komabayashi Jiro - 駒林次郎 Rank: Captain Home province: Fukui Komaru Jiro - 小丸仁良 Rank: Lt.Commander Home province: Souma Fate: KIA May 24, 1943 (RO-104) Quote
SteveM Posted April 28, 2023 Report Posted April 28, 2023 It'll be Ko using 小 (so not Komabayashi). 小 could also be O, like Ogawa (小川) or Oda (小田). Can't quite make out what that second kanji is on the label. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted April 28, 2023 Report Posted April 28, 2023 Ogawa Jiro 小川二郎 Rank: - Home province: 府立一中 The obscured Kanji doesn't seem like a good match for "川" in this case. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 28, 2023 Report Posted April 28, 2023 I would look for something more like 小定 or 小柴 or Quote
