Toukenan Posted April 21, 2023 Report Posted April 21, 2023 Muramasa is the most famous swordsmith in history along with Soshu Masamune, and if Masamune is the world's famous sword (Meito, art work), Muramasa can be said to be the world's best work (Wazamono, weapon sword). After the Edo period, it became widely known due to rumors about the legend of the bewitched sword, and as a result, it became difficult to use the name Muramasa around the middle of the Edo period, and it declined. On the other hand, around the end of the Tokugawa shogunate(Bakumatsu), Muramasa was favored by patriots as a symbol of overthrow of the Tokugawa shogunate, and on the other hand, masterpieces of Muramasa were created in Kabuki, Ukiyo-e, and other creative works. We will explain everything about "Muramasa" that you have heard about once, so please enjoy watching it! https://youtu.be/iFHtCxK1ovg 5 1 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 28, 2023 Report Posted April 28, 2023 A few years back I bought a Muramasa Tanto. It had a Kantei certificate from a famous organization (not the NBTHK), plus sumi brushwork on old folding white paperwork from Honami. With a habaki! The complete package! (Although I would have liked to have a koshirae with it.) I showed the blade to my sword sensei; he looked at it for a while and said, "It's gimei, though probably the work of one of Muramasa's disciples. I am seriously disappointed in XXX San for papering this. The old kanteisho is a fake too." Eventually I sold the blade, at a loss, naturally. If I ever buy a Muramasa again, I will be much more careful. Once bitten, twice shy. Thank you for the nice friendly video, Mr Toukenan. Very easy for anyone to understand. 2 Quote
Alex A Posted April 28, 2023 Report Posted April 28, 2023 Who knows Piers, you could have shown it to another expert and he may have said its genuine. Muramasa, more about the name then the blades, for me. Like to see them though. 1 Quote
