John C Posted April 11, 2023 Report Posted April 11, 2023 Hello everyone: I have made an attempt, however not too successfully. Line 1: I could not read the first character: ? Shu ? 449 ? ? (To?) = so I assume a unit number? Line 2: Ko Kuni ???????? = Small country... (google translate has it as little brother) Round Stamp: Enquiry + date = 17.5.6 May 6th, Showa 17 (1942) Stamp on left is Ko then unreadable. Please correct me!! Thank you, John C. Quote

John C Posted April 12, 2023 Author Report Posted April 12, 2023 3 hours ago, Nobody said: Manchuria No. 449 Unit, イ(I) team Thank you very much! I hadn't considered Katakana for "I team" Would you happen to know why some of these photos were stamped? A few of the pictures I have use similar stamps. John C. Quote
John C Posted April 23, 2023 Author Report Posted April 23, 2023 This is a follow-up to the picture posted above. I have been able to scrape the top layer of tape off of the stamp on the left. I went through my glossary of military terms and could not find these exact characters. I believe the first kanji is platoon/shidai and the fourth character may be "police." I assume it is some sort of regimental approval stamp. Any additional help would be appreciated. Thank you, John C. Quote
SteveM Posted April 23, 2023 Report Posted April 23, 2023 Its 小野千恵男 Ono Chieo the name of the guy in the photo. These are the same kanji as in what Moriyama-san wrote in his "Line 2" above (without the "sama" on the end). 2 Quote
