Recently I've got my hands on this wakizashi.

It looks genuine and nice, but even though I like it, I would like to get some opinions from local experts.

The waki does have a signature which seems to translate as Hankei (https://nihontoclub.com/smiths/HAN5). It also seems to got original koshirae with (possibly) silver plated habaki and gold plated seppa.
What do you think about it?
Also, it does not have any papers. Is it worth trying to sent it for judgement?

With best wishes,
Koltira

Hello and welcome to the forum. At first glance this does look to be a nicely mounted Wakizashi. When it comes to the signature we must understand Hankei is a very famous smith, which also means alot of fakes were made. When comparing authenticated signatures, I do not have high hopes yours is a genuine example.

So certainly something to enjoy, the blade itself looks well made. Given the signature and potential value of a real Hankei it may be worth sending it for Shinsa to "remove all doubt"?

Dear Koltira.

Welcome!  Just to add that this is a nice koshirae with very attractive fuchi kashira and, as you say, silver foiled habaki and gold foiled seppa.

All in all a very attractive sword.  Enjoy it!

All the best.

Gimei without any doubt. A kantei point for Hankei is the strong thickness of the machi whether it is the mune or the ha machi. The location of the mei is not the right one either
