GoldenDrachen Posted April 9, 2023 Report Posted April 9, 2023 Hello gentlemen I am making attempts in my own judgements. Found this one. I knew I have seen similar motif in the books. Quick browsing brought up this Although the composition is different, there are many similarities. ( Shape of the Suzumushi, this cutout on the side of the seppa dai..) Question is: Could be the first one Akasaka too? Regards Vitaly 2 Quote
Infinite_Wisdumb Posted April 9, 2023 Report Posted April 9, 2023 Looks like it to me! Love the motif 1 Quote

A thinner design like yours. https://www.flickr.com/photos/thekevinz/ They have described it as Myochin/Miochin Feelers are so thin I would be scared to breathe on them! The Yahoo auction says the design is Aizu. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r1081411806 2 1 1 Quote

To me above tsuba is far more delicate. And design itself looks more archaic, older.. Any idea on the spiral? The only thing that comes to my mind is young fern. As per listing description, I , for some reason doubt that this is Aizu. But I have no experience in this and may be mistaking. Regards Vitaly Quote
Spartancrest Posted April 9, 2023 Report Posted April 9, 2023 I have my doubts on Aizu and the thin one Miochin? - They are guesses at best, I can't translate the mei, perhaps that might give us a clue? Then we just have to worry if the signature is authentic or added later! Fern is likely - the 'grasses' usually seen with this design don't grow with that sort of unfolding curl. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 9, 2023 Report Posted April 9, 2023 Not disagreeing, but I find a problem with suzumushi which one associates with autumn, and warabi or zenmai ferns symbolizing spring. On the other hand I do not have much to offer instead, without doing a lookaround, but my first port of call would be to make sure there is no association with water. They sing in the cooler evenings. Then maybe the spiral design in sake cups... summer to autumn, a time to drink sake? 1 Quote
Geraint Posted April 9, 2023 Report Posted April 9, 2023 Dear Dale. In your first reply the tsuba you show is one made by Kevin Adams after a Myochin design. And just so you know the Yahoo link takes me to a page that tells me that this service is not available in the UK or the Eu. Vitaly, I'm sure you know this site already but..... https://www.shibuiswords.com/tsuba.htm If you go to the Akasaka section you will see that tsuba by this group often give away their construction with visible lines on the edges of the plate and one or two other things to look out for. It's very tempting to assume that similar designs must come from the same group but that is not always a good assumption. Keep up the good work. All the best. 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted April 9, 2023 Report Posted April 9, 2023 As Geraint wrote, famous AKASAKA design, but probably another (later) manufacture. The technique reminds me even a bit of AKAO. Quote

[ /r1081411806 ] I have the same problem some European and Asian sites won't open for me in Australia. [Nanny State?] 1 Quote
