Guest Simon R Posted April 2, 2023 Report Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) Well, I dabbled again. My latest acquisition is a small (6.9x6.7cm), noticeably rusted (at the bottom, front rim around 5:30 on the two waves) Akasaka (maybe) piece. It's certainly not by any of the school's masters or notable artists but I loved the goose. I'm sticking two other tsuba in the NBTHK shinsa in May so I might just include this to see what they make of it. BTW, the picture showing what it looks like a crack on the edge shows up as more of a cut mark under a magnifying glass, so it looks like it may have taken a hit from another sword in the past. Dan tsuba Posted April 2, 2023 Report Posted April 2, 2023 Hello Simon, I really like the motif on your tsuba! If you do submit it to shinsa, I would be very interested in the results (maybe you can post them when and if you get them?). I would also be interested in GRC’s (Glen), and Spartancrest’s (Dale) opinions on the piece. These two members have a “world” more of knowledge than I have! With respect, Dan Quote

With respect, Dan Thanks for the kind words Dan. I'll certainly let you know what the NBTHK says but it'll be months. I'm still waiting for feedback on a sword I put in on December 2, so don't hold your breath! Quote
Spartancrest Posted April 2, 2023 Report Posted April 2, 2023 Well I can find a similar design. But I can't be sure of the Akasaka attribution on either of them http://sanmei.com/contents/en-us/d9.html Reed Grass a Wild Goose Tsuba Signed : Oite Sanshu-Nishio Kunitomo MASAYUKI-saku Round shape, Iron ground, Masame forging surface, Ji-sukashi Open work, Kebori carving, Round contoured Maru-mimi rim 76.3mm x 76.7mm 5.7mm thick (Mimi) / 5.4mm thick (Seppa-dai) NBTHK(Tokubetsu Hozon) certificate Quote
cdrcm12 Posted April 2, 2023 Report Posted April 2, 2023 Hi Simon, Nice Tsuba, I do like the design. I have a similar one that I attributed to 8th generation Akasaka, Tadatoki. It’s smaller than yours, 59mm x 59mm and 4mm thick and has some mokume folds. All the best Colin 3 Quote
