VAN GOGH'S SIGNATURE ON A BLANK CANVAS

Having seen the recent thread on a beautiful Omori school fuchi with typical carved, crashing waves ('WAVE SCULPTURE'), it  reminded me of an item I had stashed away from 30 odd years ago. It is blatantly gimei with the signature of Omori Teruhide - despite being a completely plain copper fuchi with shakudo base. I well remember the late Victor Harris and I laughing about this and him comparing it to "finding a Van Gogh signature on a blank canvas"!
It really makes you wonder what on earth the forger was thinking? (Or perhaps it's just an Edo period joke?)
