Pippo Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 Does anyone know what socket bayonets the Japanese carried when modernizing? Thought they just had enfields and bayonet looks austrian ( or are symbols for chinese bayonet who i think were buying off Austro hungarian empire) 1 Quote
mdiddy Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 Someone might come along with the insight you are looking for ( @Kiipu maybe?) , but my guess is your question will have more luck connecting to an answer in a forum like Gunboards or similar. Quote
Pippo Posted March 28, 2023 Author Report Posted March 28, 2023 Thanks Matt, just remembered i had a copy of Raymond labars Bayonets of Japan and he has it as possibly Japanese or chinese marked Austrian socket bayonet but no record of Japanese being issued them. 1 Quote
Kiipu Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 That Japanese had examples of all the various rifles used by other countries during the Meiji era. Sometimes just a solitary example and in other cases thousands of them. For example, the Enfield bayonets were still in use by the army as late as 1884. In answer to your question about socket bayonet usage by the Japanese, I have not really looked into the matter. In regards to the markings, one character is 大 which means large. As for the other marking(s), maybe @BANGBANGSAN or @SteveM can help? 1 1 Quote
