Please assist with tag translation

Hello, this was attached to a leather scabbard of a fixed blade dagger My grandfather brought back from the pacific. I posted it also in military swords of Japan section. Looks like surrender tag or? If someone can translate the tag I would appreciate the help. My brother sent me the pics which the blade is in his possession.

廠橫

通勤章 – commuter badge (maybe a pass certificate for workers)

横　廠 – (My guess) 横須賀海軍工廠 – Yokosuka Naval Arsenal

The oval white plastic one is a worker’s “gate pass” for the “Kusugaura gate” of the Yokosuka Naval Yard.

Thanks Joe!  I note a masukotto doll in the collection as well, nice.  I actually have a little story about those dolls I mentioned over at WRF.  Just ran across another picture of one mounted on the dashboard of an airplane of all places.

For the meaning and usage of 横廠

 

and perhaps early seaplane/flying boat trials were conducted there at the Yokosuka Naval Base. From the kanji etymology, it could even be an attempt to describe a 'base', i.e. a place without walls. A bit like if you wrote Y.B. in English for Yokosuka Base.
