firebee1976 Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Can I get some help with translation on this mei. The original picture was small and it was hard to make out the mei, so I enlarged it as much as I could without making the picture grainy and unreadable. Some help with translation would be much appreciated. I want to know what I'm getting involved with. I have a picture of it here http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=72023828&albumID=2712667&imageID=49897347 Quote
firebee1976 Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 So... This is the translation I've come up with so far... I can see Ichi, maybe Kazu and Ta or possibly Da in the middle of the mei, but I can't make out the top or the bottom of the mei. The part under the Da looks like it might've been Uji, but it's hard to tell. The top has me baffled. The left side on the bottom looks like it might be Aki or some variation of. The bottom could also translate into Take. It's hard for me to tell due to the ware. I'm really hoping somebody in here is better at translation than I am because this mei has me stumped. Quote
Ted Tenold Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 I'll give you a hint as it seems you're trying to get more out of it than it is. Your image only shows two characters. Don't confuse the elements within each which are radicals, as being seperate characters. Hope this helps. Giv'er another go! Quote
firebee1976 Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 Thanks Ted.... I just started studying on translation, so I'm going to have my fair share of trial and error. Haha... I see... The bottom markings indicate which province the smith is from... Beautiful. That helps a ton. Quote
