Jacques Posted March 21, 2023 Report Posted March 21, 2023 mei = Tsuda Echizen no kami Sukehiro 津田越前守助広 Date = Enpo shichi nen hachi gatsu hi 延宝七年八月日 At first glance and without any check it looks shoshin. 3 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted March 22, 2023 Report Posted March 22, 2023 Shoshin means that the Mei is Real and authentic the opposite of Gimei = a fake Signature. 2 Quote
Eds Posted March 22, 2023 Author Report Posted March 22, 2023 Thank you. Good news. I may post more pics when I receive it. I had a couple of older Nihonto with broken or missing Tsukas. Is there a recommendation on where to source quality / good replacement parts? Thanks Ed S Quote
Jacques Posted March 22, 2023 Report Posted March 22, 2023 I had the chance to see a sword of Nidai Sukehiro which is juyo bunkasai and has the same date. The quality of this blade is simply incredible, I have never seen a ko itame so tight and yet clearly visible. As for the hamon it is a pronounced notare midare called toran ba with a nioiguchi of exceptional brilliance and uniqueness. Sukehiro is one of the best swordsmiths of the Edo era (saijo saku) but the quality of this sword exceeds what he usually produced. ED, your sword must absolutely be seen by real experts. I suspect a real gemme. If it is shoshin as I think (I may be wrong), it is a nice acquisition because there is no sword that is not of great quality in the work of Sukehiro. 2 Quote
Eds Posted March 23, 2023 Author Report Posted March 23, 2023 Jacques Thank you again. I live near Palm Springs CA so the next chance I have to get it looked at may be a Antique Sword show. There was just one in Las Vegas that I attended. Lots of familiar names there. Again, Thank you. V/R Ed S Quote
