Joe Choi Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Mantetsu Tanto, showing it's flying wheel logo. I guess it was made for a Rail Road official? Looks like some type of transfer applied to the tsuka on both sides, blade is nothing special, not Mantetsu steel Nagasa of 5.5" 1 Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I suppose anything is possible, but I just don't buy it. I have found katanas, tachi, waks, but never a tanto and this doesn't seem too consitant with the "look" of the rest of their blades (they look like they fit in). Like I said, never say never, they may have made tanto (and probably did), but this one doesn't look the part. Maybe one with more wisdom can correct me... as they often do. Quote
Ted Tenold Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 If it does not bear a good stamp and/or mei associated with the NMR on the nakago, then I'd be very suspicious. These things are starting to grab the attention of forgers now that there's more reference and popularity of them. 1 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 24 Report Posted October 24 OLD POST RESURRECTED!!! Just noting for the record, in case anyone else comes across this thread - The logo is of the North China Railway, not SMR Mantetsu. Cool tanto! 1 Quote
