hello all.

 

This sword belongs to my friend and want to help about the authenticity of this sword.

length 150 cm

The photos here aren't really showing much other than the blade appears to still be in its saya (scabbard) and it looks VERY straight for something you believe to be on Japanese origin.

It appears it might be a nagamaki if it is Japanese?

 

Try some closeup shots after you've managed to draw the blade out from its scabbard and see about getting some measurements too. That ought to be a start for us to give you a better read of what you might have.

I agree this looks like a bokken (wooden practice sword). It would be nice to have more close up photos of each end and the area around the tsuba/hand guard.

That is a long handle... sword might be metal but hard to tell with the pictures given.

Practice sword seems right.

 

P.S. I would not be doing any testing or training given its condition.

I think its an interesting and authentic object but its not Japanese per se. Not an expert on SEA weapons, but one does see very large nagamaki like weapons in the region with Japanese styled blades. 

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one, unless your post is really relevant and adds to the topic..
